Grievance Redress Mechanism Training

As part of activities aimed at building capacity for increasing protected area management and governance effectiveness, SCERA is developing social safeguard tools for Okomu National Park (ONP). In August 2023, SCERA supported the set up and training of a Grievance Redress Committee (GRC) and development of a Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) to address grievances and complaints that may arise in the management of the Park and enforcement of park regulations and forest / wildlife laws. The training was carried out by a natural resource specialist Dr Tony Atah. The implementation of a Grievance Redress system will provide for a fair and transparent process toward resolution of grievances, engendering trust building and robust collaboration with local communities. This will enable a more inclusive and participatory approach in the management of the Park.
