Value Chain Analysis

Sustainability and Conservation Education for Rural Areas (SCERA) conducted a participatory value chain analysis of key farm products in communities around Okomu National Park to enable identification of forest-friendly sustainable income generating activities, and to identify key actors at various nodes along the market chain from producers to end consumers. The value chain analysis was carried out by British Consultant, Dr. Adam Manvell, who along with the SCERA team visited several communities surrounding the Park. Fruit trees identified included Bush Mango (Irvingia gabonesis and I. wombolu), Bitter Kola (Garcinia Kola), Native or Slim Pear (Dacryodes edulis) , Pepper Fruit (Dennettia tripetala) , Native Kola (Cola acuminate), African Cherry (Chrysophyllum albidum and C. africanum) and Guinea Pepper (Xylopia aethiopica). Information was gathered on the fruit trees and discussions on how to best enhance their marketable production.
