Training of Rangers at Okomu National Park

SCERA organised a training for rangers in the Spatial, Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART). SMART is a tool designed for measuring, evaluating and improving the effectiveness of law enforcement patrols and site-based conservation activities. It has been designed to improve management effectiveness. SMART offers a suite of best practices designed for efficient collection, storage, analysis and evaluation of data on patrol efforts, patrol results, human activities, flora and fauna observations, and natural features.The training was led by used to monitor illegal logging and other forest threats. Rangers learnt to collect data using smartphones installed with the SMART software, and to upload and analyse data for reporting purposes.a Wildlife & forest specialist. It focused on the use of SMART as a tool for law enforcement data collection and for producing high quality information on threats, wildlife and illegal activities. They were also trained in human rights and social safeguard and the use of Global Forest Watcher
